Well it’s on it’s way full on mega beast, full carbon factory Saracen Myst DH Bike, can’t wait for it to arrive so we can set it up and get shredding.
Fun night talking bikes, riding and tactics while dad helped prep James bike for this weekends BDS at Hopton, bit of head scratching with a dodgy back brake but hopefully all sorted out now as the piston was stuck in the master cylinder and the best bit was I could stay up late on a school night doing what I love BIKES !!
Dad got some of these Uber finned brake pads for the Saracen, they are a lot cheaper than Shimano genuine pads and the brake pad can be replaces as it’s not fixed to the finned back plate so should hopefully save some money ( keep dad happy )
When it came to fitting them it seemed a little fiddly to start trying to hold 5 separate bits and fit them all at the same time, but it didn’t take to long to get it sorted, hopefully the bike is now all sorted for Antur on Sunday.
What Uber Bike Components say about there pads.
My rear Alivio mech has been playing up for a while, then a stick went through it at Llandegla around a month a go the gears were all over the place, dad fixed it and got it working some shape, but on Tuesday we went to Hopton Woods for a look at the dh tracks, it didn’t last to long as James had a puncture and didn’t have anything to fix it so we made our way back to the car, in the car park as I was cycling towards the car there was a big crunch and the wheel locked, dad got it going again but by now it was time to go, we made our way home as I rode my bike from James car to put it away another big crunch and this time the mech was wrapped up around the cassette.
Fair play to James he said he had a Shimano 9 speed XT mech at home that I could use, so he dropped it off and with in 20 minutes dad had fitted it and set it up and I’m back to ripping it up again.
Great day if a little of an early start 4am out of bed to go to the Onza Mini Downhill series in the Forest Of Dean, we did get there a little early but it made parking easy and could chill before the races.
Dad went and signed on for me at 8am and then we pushed up to the start of the course but still had to hang about for a short while as the first aid people hadn’t turned up yet so I had a bit of a walk of the track, eventually we could start to ride the track, it was a bit of a shame as we only had one and three quarters of an hour to practise which by the time you had pushed back up amounted to two full runs so not a huge amount of time to session the track.
Racing was supposed to start at 11am and my first race run at 11.42am but some more delays and some sitting around at the top but eventually I was away the top section was quite pedaly with some jumps, then down a bank onto a fire road and into a lot rougher/techie/rooty section, then into a slippy turn down to the finish, this turn had caught quite a few people out and gone straight through the tapes, the run went well if a little slow I had a 1min 16sec run I was slightly disappointed but thought I would try harder next run.
Time for a chill and something to eat back down at the car, they said my next run should be at around 1.30pm so we pushed back up to the top a little early so I could have a blow before my run but yet again some more delays and I think it was around 2.30pm before it was game on, this run seemed a little smoother and I managed to knock off another 2 seconds which put me in 23rd out of 26 riders in my class, not as good as I would have liked but it could have been worse and I did beat 25 other riders in all the other catorgries, it was quite an eye opener how fast some of the riders are in juvenile mind give me something to aim for.
First proper pair of MTB shoes Shimano AM 41, been riding in trainers and high tops but these should help with grip on the pedals and also a lot stiffer in the sole so should also help when pedalling, going to give them a go at Llandegla tomorrow lets hope the weather is ok.
Well tried my new shoes out and fair play they are brilliant great grip on the pedals, keep you feet warm and dry ( yes it did rain a bit ) so well pleased with them.
Got a pair of these coming for my Nukeproof so I can go trail riding on it and get more used to the bike before the start of the DH races, they will roll a lot quicker than my DH tyres as when I first got the Nukeproof I rode it at Nant Y Arian and on the ups it was really hard work on Schwalbe Magic Mary’s, the other plan for these tyres is Aberystwyth and Conquer The Cliff Race, when I did it last year on my Stance there wasn’t any need for a full on DH tyre so they will come in handy then as well, when I did it on my Stance I used the Trail Kings which worked fantastic, the Rubber Queen is the fore runner to the Trail King so should be spot on.
So more thanks to Continental for making such fantastic tyres, hope I can get a fantastic result as well.
